Born in the year 2244 in the post-apocalyptic world of Fallout: New Vegas (c. 2281), Len Darin is a courier (designation: Six) working for the Mojave Express delivery service. While en route to the New Vegas Strip he was intercepted, had his package stolen, was shot in the head and left for dead in a shallow grave.

Currently on a vengeful mission to ice the guy who shot him, Len's secondary objectives include being a huge pain in the ass to the various groups jockeying for power in the Mojave Desert and just trying to get through the damn day.

Len has permanent worry lines between his eyebrows from living a life of incredulity and a dimpled chin, hidden by the constant week-old beard he sports. He has a few visible scars - small ones on his arms, hands, and neck - and a large, unpleasant one at his right temple from a gunshot wound that somehow didn't kill him. Usually the messy hair covers it. Is fairly leggy and walks with a confident, self-assured and leisurely swagger to his gait.

Len subscribes to a fashion style one might refer to as "imminently practical," if only because dressing up in an arid desert is a futile effort. Most of his clothing is anywhere between sand and brown, with the occasional shade of sage green and blue if he can swing it (Those shirts are for special occasions). He wears road leathers and heavy boots, suspenders and bandoliers with his canvas pack. A bandanna around his neck or gambler crown hat will sometimes make an appearance depending on the weather. Generally keeps his shirtsleeves rolled to his elbows, his collars unbuttoned, and can frequently be found wearing a pair of thin leather gloves. In variable weather he'll wear a serape of muted colors, a la the Man with No Name. While not a frequent wearer of accessories, Len does have thin, stamped silver cuffs of Najavo design that he wears on his right wrist. He is heavily armed at all times.

Homogenous American accent with an even tone that dips into a slight Southwestern drawl when he gets worked up, flustered, or angry. Doesn't always enunciate perfectly, sometimes slurring his words together or dropping consonants, but harnesses a much more consciously clipped edge when persuading people to give him what he wants. Swears, but more for emphasis than anything. Has a pleasant baritone singing voice with vibrato, akin to that of Roy Orbison or Orville Peck.

Worn leather, road dust, dry tobacco and gun smoke. In the evenings there's a hint of whiskey or moonshine. No artificial or manufactured fragrances, just Well-Traveled Man Smell™ and occasionally, plain lye-based soap.

★ 4 ST, 8 PE, 5 EN, 9 CH, 5 IN, 5 AG, 6 LK. After an involuntary experimental surgery, he has an additional +2 to ST and +2 to IN.

★ While Len does not know exactly where he came from originally, he has memories of his family being caravan traders along old Route 66 on the Amarillo-Flagstaff stretch, centrally located in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

★ He has travelled across the American Southwest since he can remember and at 14 was forced to do so on his own.

★ He has never been to the Pacific Northwest.

★ Len is of mixed New Mexican (Hispanic) and Native American (Navajo) heritage. He can speak fluent Spanish, or rather, the post-apocalyptic future's version thereof. Dialects change in 200+ years. He also has familiarity with some Diné.

★ He enjoys reading anything and everything he can get his hands on, from the label on the back of a bottle of cola to an academic text.

★ Len can play the guitar and harmonica, and enjoys pulling them out with frequency. He sings in addition to this, usually stuff from the radio or old trail songs from caravanners.

★ He has worked various jobs, from entertainer to con man, professional sniper, hired gun and mercenary to bounty hunter. Being a delivery guy for the Mojave Express is simply the newest in a long line of diverse "professions."

★ Len is an exceptional gambler and card sharp, in particular specializing in a card game called Caravan.

★ Due to the purely utilitarian need to construct his own body armor or equipment, Len is a prolific leatherworker.

★ Len has a metal plate in his head from his severe craniocerebal trauma, and an experimental cybernetic spine and cybernetic heart from some ethically questionable robot doctors (please do not put this man in an MRI machine).

★ He plays up the "cowboy vibe" with people who think he's a hick off the bat.

★ Len smokes regularly and rolls his own cigarettes with coyote tobacco. He also drinks a little more than he probably should.

★ During his youth he experimented with chems (various performance enhancement/recreational drugs in the Fallout universe) and isn't opposed to their use, but tries not to get too deep into them these days because he has something of an addictive personality and knows it.

★ He hates being called "Lenny."

FACTION RELATIONS

★ New California Republic: Agrees with the core ideals of the NCR, disagrees with the execution. Not particularly fond of the strategy used because it closely aligns with the governmental structure that led to the War. They should probably just stay in California.

★ Caesar's Legion: Unrepentant slavers and authoritarian assholes. Fuck 'em.

★ Robert House: Shady. Directly had a hand in Len's near-death at the hands of Benny Gecko, seeing as House contracted the Mojave Express in the first place. 200+ years past his prime, definitely overdue for dying.

★ The Three Families: Corrupt and rife with infighting. Fully intends to destabilize and supplant their chokehold on the Strip.

★ Followers of the Apocalypse: The only party that seems interested in attempting to restore things into a self-sustaining society, as opposed to something living off the remnants of yesteryear.

★ Brotherhood of Steel: Big guys in big armor who won't shut up about big weapons. Knowledge-gathering is well and good but their interests primarily lie in what can blow shit up. They're all right.

★ Boomers: Shockingly decent folk for being so heavily armed, but their long-term goal of setting off a huge explosive is worth the substantial side-eye.

★ Great Khans: Steer clear. No friends among them, and it's best to not interact if it can be helped.

★ Enclave: Remnant of the pre-War world and practically wiped off the map thanks to the NCR. They sounded like a bunch of dicks, from what he knows.

WEAPON PREFERENCES / FIGHTING STYLE

★ Prefers long-distance sniping with a rifle, picking people off discreetly to save later headaches. Particularly enjoys using La Longue Carabine and the Gauss Rifle.
★ Brutally effective in hand-to-hand combat and fights very dirty.
★ Equally vicious with a knife.
★ Vacillates between energy weapons and traditional, because they're so specific to different needs and occasions.
★ Tends to avoid using explosives with the exception of mines and tripwires, placed strategically to garner the most damage in one hit. Grenades are too loud and too obvious.
★ Doesn't enjoy heavy weapons because they bog down a lot of inventory space.
★ Rotates plasma pistols in and out because he keeps thinking he'll like them, but then they melt somebody and it's honestly just kind of gross.

REGARDING AUs

Being a malleable protagonist with severe head trauma, Len is extremely easy and flexible for me to AU into just about any other world. The following is a very abbreviated (and WIP) list of some examples I'm into playing and adapting him for; I'm always open to trying new stuff as well, or exploring something different!

General Contemporary AU: Former military; scout sniper in the Marine Corps. Anti-authoritarian and wildly disillusioned with the general military industrial complex. Works in private contracting more out of a sense of personal pride for what he's good at and because the money is decent. Has definitely done work of questionable legality.

Red Dead Redemption (1&2): Sharpshooter/rifleman, bounty hunter, and experienced con man; delivers mail on occasion for easy money. Has run a number of grifts but tends to work independently, only teams up when absolutely necessary. Definitely has his face plastered on several Wanted posters.

WestWorld: Park host who has undergone several different "profession" builds and is currently a delivery man for the Pony Express. Loop involves getting robbed en-route and shot in the head over and over again. If he breaks out of his loop and is conscious of it, he's pissed.

D&D/Baldur's Gate 3: Human Rogue/Bard multiclass. Jack of all trades, extremely charismatic. More chaotic neutral-to-chaotic good in terms of alignment. Is out for his own payday but also doesn't mind helping people who are really in a bad way, on occasion. Ruthless in a fight and probably enjoys it a little too much, but is decidedly squishy in close-combat because he prefers to pick people off from far away most of the time. Excellent sniper, likes knives.

[BG3-specific as Len "Tav" Tavenner: Unlikely to completely screw over the tieflings or partner with the goblins in Act 1 because he's anti-authoritarian and fascist types can get fucked, actually. Plays around a bit with the tadpole enhancements, but is extremely wary of what it could do with longterm use. Hates having people in his head.]

Supernatural (or similar paranormal media): Hunter. Has brushed up against or is adjacent to Los Espookys, is an extremely capable remover of things that go bump in the night. Former military, Marines (dishonorably discharged). Worked independently or with very small teams as a spec ops scout sniper.

The Magnus Archives: Avatar of The End. "Became" during the 1945 detonation of the gadget at the Trinity Site in New Mexico. Chill guy, but only because he knows we're all gonna die when the end comes. And it will come.

The Last of Us: Born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Len was twenty and working in Albuquerque when the outbreak occurred. Corralled into the walled safe zone established by FEDRA, he worked in smuggling for several years until FEDRA was overthrown and the city fell to disarray and infection. Over the following years Len shifted towns until he settled in Vegas, which had been reclaimed by its citizens after FEDRA was run out. The Strip is just as corrupt as it was before, but efficiently run and he works as a courier between the city and outlying settlements.
